Guide for Curing Your Clay Pottery
Clay pieces made by hand by potters in Latin American communities use clays that are mostly collected from mines found in their communities, modeled by hand using different techniques like pottery wheels, mold casting and of course, ancient techniques where only the skills of the creator are required. Before these pieces are used for the first time they must be cured to prevent them from breaking easily and absorbing or filtering liquids during use, due to the porous surfaces that remain after firing the clay.
Remember that your clay piece is special and unique, and just like human beings, it ages and evolves over time.
